A recent survey conducted by Owens Corning found that nearly 80% of homeowners indicated “some interest” in home maintenance or repair services.

The company only surveyed buyers of new homes and asked questions about builders, but the results are meaningful for remodelers, too, because they seem to indicate that a maintenance market exists. While a few remodelers have succeeded in implementing maintenance programs, others have found the obstacles — cost effectiveness and the difficulty of finding the qualified labor, to name two — too much to overcome.

The survey was conducted in conjunction with Owens Corning's “Life of the Home” program, which the company offers as a “value added” service. Contractors are certified by Owens Corning as part of the program. As of now, few if any remodelers are involved with “Life of the Home,” as the company has thus far mainly focused on marketing to builders.
